Software

MagVAR Calculators for global models and IFR models compute geomagnetic reference values for planned and actual wellbore trajectories. Output includes spatial and temporal magnetic gradients, grid convergence, surface height, gravity acceleration and QC thresholds.

MagVAR IFR Calculator for local models (MVLM)

  • Point calculation of declination, dip and total field, including spatial and temporal gradients
  • Print a detailed report for any such point
  • Import and process a well plan from Compass®, Well Architect®, DrillingOffice®, KellyDown®, Weatherford 5D or a generic file format
  • Compute reference values for the center of lateral or user defined way points
  • Auto-partition of well trajectory based on threshold ranges for declination, dip and total field
  • Output in a format which supports different IFR implementation work flows
  • Coverage map for user specific IFR model

To assist quality control of raw Measurement While Drilling (MWD) data, the optional QC module computes QC thresholds for the Total Field, Dip and BtotalDip from the Operator Wellbore Survey Group (OWSG) error tool codes. These QC thresholds can be computed point-wise or for an entire well trajectory encompassing multiple sections with different tool codes.

MagVAR Global Calculator (MVGM)

The MagVAR Global Calculator provides an efficient means to evaluate the new MVSD2018 and MVHD2019 and other global geomagnetic reference field models for a given location and date. The following functionality is provided:

  • MVSD2018 is a higher definition alternative to the BGGM and is valid with the MWD tool code
  • MVHD2019 is a higher definition alternative to the HDGM and is valid with the MWD+HDGM tool code
  • Input locations in any geographical or projection coordinate system in the world with an EPSG code
  • Compute Declination, Dip and Total Field for given date and location for different global reference models (MVSD, MVHD, EMM, IGRF and WMM)
  • Compute Field Acceptance Criteria for Gtotal, Btotal, and Dip QC tests for validating tool codes at a given Sigma level and wellbore geometry
  • Process a file with multiple locations
  • Compute spatial gradients and annual change of the Declination, Dip and Total Field
  • Provide estimates of uncertainty for Declination, Dip and Total Field
  • Compute the local grid convergence and geomagnetic total correction
  • Compute reference values for the gravity acceleration at the surface and downhole
  • Compute the local geoid height (mean sea level) above the WGS84 ellipsoid
  • Find the local surface elevation or ocean depth
  • Show the location on a map
  • Output a report for the directional driller
