MagVAR High Definition MVHD2019

ISCWSA Tool Codes: MWD+HRGM

MagVAR is now introducing the new MVHD2019 global geomagnetic reference field model. The MVHD is MagVAR’s high definition model of the Earth’s main field with a crustal field component and updated annually in order to capture secular changes.  The MVHD is a higher accuracy alternative to the HDGM model and satisfies the conditions of the OWSG MWD+HRGM error model tool code. This higher accuracy model gives drillers the advantage of reduced ellipses of uncertainty than those achieved with the BGGM model making the MVHD a great solution to increase separation factors when anti-collision planning.

Product availability

Implementing the MVHD2019 into the drilling workflow is made simple using MagVAR’s MVGM calculator. Drillers, engineers, and well planners can acquire the magnetic reference field values (Btotal, Dip, and Declination) at any point location in the world using any coordinate reference system with an EPSG code. The MVHD2019 can also be made available as a plug-in for your well planning or directional drilling software of choice. Please contact MagVAR to discuss a solution tailored to your specific needs.

Proven Track Record

The MVHD model was created by Dr. Stefan Maus, Director of MagVAR. Dr. Maus spent 10 years with NOAA as a chief scientist leading the geomagnetism team in the National Geophysical Data Center. Dr. Maus is known in the oil and gas industry as a leading expert in geomagnetism through his development of the HDGM global model and numerous local IFR models for drilling customers around the world.
